#83 Fieldfare

Hey folks, I hope everyone had a nice holiday season and New Year?

I’ve had a bit of a break and suitably stuffed my face over the past few weeks, and I’m now slowly trying to get back into my normal routine. After the cold snap we had the weather has consistently been pretty rubbish but luckily I’ve got quite a backlog of (mainly bird) photographs to post and keep me going.

This grumpy looking little bird is a fieldfare. They are part of the thrush family along with blackbirds and song thrush, and make a similar ‘click click’ call to that of blackbirds. We only get them visiting here in Scotland in the winter, so I was keen to get out and see some. I found this critter on my first attempt and have returned to their spot a few times – they’re the only one I’ve seen actually, though I assume they have some friends somewhere!

I’ve included the second picture above just to show of their camouflage. Sitting on the iced-over river among the snow and the frozen leaves they blend in so well, their colours are a perfect match. Nature is amazing.

Thanks for visiting,

Kaylin x
