Hey folks, Hope everyone is well?

Today’s photo is one of our local woodpeckers (greater spotted woodpecker, to be exact). I’ve been trying to get a good shot of one of these lovely birds for a while. They’re quite shy!

I often hear and see them – sometimes even at our garden bird feeder – but they never hang around long before disappearing up a tree. For quite brightly coloured birds they’re difficult to spot if they don’t want to be seen. I can quite often hear them squeaking (they honestly sound a bit like a dog’s squeaky toy 😂) but still don’t manage to see them.

This critter happened to land in a tree close by with a good line of sight, and I managed to snap a few quick shots before it noticed me and flew off.
