Hello folks, hope everyone is well 🙂
I’ve not been posting much recently but mainly because I’ve been too busy out taking photos!
This is one of the younger pied wagtails which frequent the river near my house (the adults are totally black and white, with no grey).
They are usually a little bit shy, but this little one was quite happy to hop about the rocks around me – at one point it seemed to be deliberately messing with me, hopping closer and closer and then darting away and back again, to within a couple of feet of me. It was very funny! I love little interactions with animals like that.
I was trying to get a picture of the wagtails as they shot up to catch flies, but didn’t have much luck (they’re very fast, and I’m not). You can see this little one has its eye on some food, and it shot up to catch it just after I took this.
This is actually a colour photo, though with the dark background and the black and white of the wagtail, you could be forgiven for thinking otherwise. I would usually try for a contrasting background, but I actually really like the way the stark black and grey of the background and the rock seem to enhance the starkness of the birds black and white colours.
Thanks for visiting,
Kaylin
