#121 Small Tortoiseshell

Hey folks,

Summer is in full swing here in Scotland and there are beautiful butterflies and moths absolutely everywhere!

Getting a good shot of them isn’t always easy. I used to use my macro lens for these kind of shots but I’m finding my telephoto to be just as good if not better (plus the added bonus of not scaring them butterflies away – not that they seem to be that bothered by my presence, really!).

I love tortoiseshells, they’re very beautiful and a ‘classic’ summer butterfly here. Their larger counterparts (imaginatively named the large tortoiseshell) are very pretty as well, but not quite as vivid and striking as the small tortoiseshell.

Thanks for visiting,

Kaylin

  1. Glad to hear there’s a lot of butterflies about. I have seen fewer than I’d expect so far this year which always worries me. But I need to get out and away from the city a bit more.

    Lovely shot!
